READI 1.0 South Bend – Elkhart

Through a collaborative process engaging leaders from across the region, the South Bend – Elkhart region was awarded the maximum amount of READI funds from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) – $50 million – in December 2021. In 2022, the Northern Indiana Regional Development Authority (RDA) awarded funds to 16 Quality of Place and 11 programmatic projects. These allocations will have an impact reaching far beyond city limits or county lines. These projects will expand opportunities for residents, improve and expand local amenities, thereby growing what makes our region unique and sets us apart. An area grows with people, by retaining our homegrown talent and drawing the best and brightest from other places. 

Launched by Gov. Holcomb and led by IEDC, READI encourages regional collaboration and data-driven, long-term planning that will attract and retain talent in Indiana. The $500 million READI fund was passed by legislation during the 2021 session and was divided among 17 regions. The IEDC awarded the maximum grant amount of $50 million each to five of the regions, including the South Bend – Elkhart region. Awards for the other regions ranged from $5 million to $30 million.
