Argos, IN (June 6, 2018) – Business attraction, job creation, and population growth are the expected outcomes of a new, estimated $2.77 million project in Argos, Indiana. After many years of planning, the Town of Argos and the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) are celebrating the substantial completion of a Regional Cities Initiative funded “Manufacturing Center.” The ribbon cutting was held on June 6th at 11:00 a.m., and was attended by local and regional officials, all giving their support to the project.
The Argos Manufacturing Center, located at 151 Dewey Street, just off U.S. Hwy 31, was constructed within Argos’s 75-acre Shovel Ready Certified park. The building will be 50,000 square feet, expandable to up to 300,000 square feet and will feature competitive options to attract new business, including access to high speed fiber and possible rail service. The project has earned $400,000 in Regional Cities Initiative funding due to its ability to improve quality of place by attracting new industry and talent to the community.
MCEDC President/CEO, Jerry Chavez, who is also serving as the project developer, says “In today’s market, a community like Argos can benefit by developing innovative strategies to attract businesses. Manufacturing centers do that by reducing the time and costs for a company to get up and running in a new location. Marshall County’s last manufacturing center in Plymouth put the county on the map as a desired location and brought in Pretzels, Inc. in 2016. I am confident Argos will find the same success with this building.”
This project represents years of work on behalf of the Town of Argos and MCEDC to spur industrial development and grow the community. Nearly five years ago, the town purchased 75 acres of industrial land just south of town, which earned Shovel Ready designation in 2015. Argos also begun marketing and developing plans for this property. The town believes that the Argos Manufacturing Center will spark the first of many developments in this industrial park.
Important project partners including the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), Regional Development Authority (RDA), Lake City Bank, NIPSCO, IMPA, Norfolk Southern, Marshall County Commissioners, Marshall County Council, MCEDC, and the Town of Argos have worked together to bring this innovative economic development project to life.
